AMVAC is a professional association established in 2006 to represent the interests of freelance veterinarians specializing in companion animals.

The AMVAC project has been taking shape since 1999. Initially, 26 members, led by Dr. Horia Elefterescu – who also became the first president of AMVAC, constituted a nucleus, but the process to establish them legally took a little longer.

Beyond the rationale from which it was born, AMVAC is currently concerned with offering members the possibility of continuous improvement in professional activity in the office through various forms of medical education.

After its legal organization in 2007, AMVAC organized the first AMVAC Congress in Sibiu, which was attended by over 70 members.

In 2008, AMVAC organized two scientific congresses, one in March, attended by over 130 members, and the other in November, at the latter the number of participants practically doubled – over 350.

In 2009, the Congress moved to Sinaia, to a larger venue designed to accommodate over 450 participants. During the pre-congress period, an endoscopy, ultrasound and dentistry workshop were organized. Also in 2009, the first summer dermatology seminar was organized and two orthopedic workshops were initiated.

In recent years, this event has meant simultaneous lectures held in four rooms and workshops on various scientific topics.

All these manifestations and participation in most of them encouraged us to take AMVAC where it belonged, in the family of great international associations. Thus, since 2007 we have joined WSAWA, and in 2009 FECAVA. It was a very important step, which did not allow us to participate regularly in the congress organized to a certain standard, to benefit from training programs and to enter the fire circuit of professional exchanges.

In this way, the term “globalization” began to make sense for veterinary professionals.

This proves all the more significant as, in recent years, we are witnessing a real explosion in the number of pets in the urban area. The phenomenon is recorded all over the world, where the ratio of pets is on average 80% dogs and cats, and 20% are other pets (fish, reptiles, birds, rodents, horses, etc.). This exponential increase in numbers has been accompanied by a commensurate demand for quality medical services. Faced with an increasingly demanding, increasingly informed and more attached to his animal, the veterinarian must demonstrate consummate professionalism. If we add to all this the incredible development of adjacent industries, medical technologies and pharmaceutical research, we do not realize that being a veterinarian in the 21st century is a real challenge.
